 PreTox 7000 Paint Stripper
Description:
PreTox 7000 Paint Stripper is an environmentally advanced multi-functional chemical paint
stripper designed to remove multiple layers of lead based paint with one application.
PreTox 7000 Paint Stripper renders lead based paint non-hazardous for disposal.
Environmentally advanced in design, this stripper contains NO methylene chloride or
caustics, is non-flammable, can be rinsed with water and requires no neutralization.
Types of Paint Removed:
This chemical stripper can remove most varieties of paints and varnishes which are oil or
water based including latex, alkyds, stains, enamels, lacquers and clear paints. Unlike
other paint removers, this stripper can remove more difficult coatings such as two part
epoxy and urethanes.
Storage:
Store with container tightly sealed. Keep from freezing.
Surfaces:
PreTox 7000 will work on almost any surface. PreTox 7000 will not damage or affect any
substrate, will not cause wood grain to raise and will not cause lead to leach into the
substrate.
Mixing:
Mix to a creamy consistency using a drill mixer and a mixing bar such as a jiffy mixer. If
product freezes, let thaw and stir vigorously until product is consistent.
Preparation:
Mask areas not being stripped with polyethylene and masking tape.
Compatible Removal Methods
- Hand Scraping
- Water Blasting
Recommended Application Methods:
PreTox 7000 Paint Stripper may be applied by a variety of techniques, including brush,
trowel and spray. Industrial spray equipment is the recommended method. When using an
airless sprayer, it is important to either remove pump and spray gun filters or to use a
20 mesh filter or larger. Larger tip sizes i.e.: .035+ are recommended with airless spray
equipment for best production rates. PreTox 7000 Paint Stripper will easily cling to
vertical surfaces. Use application tools to fill detailed, intricate or grooved surfaces.
For best results, apply at temperatures above 60°F, temperatures below 45°F will require
additional dwell time.
For removing 3-4 layers of paint quickly. Apply PreTox 7000
Paint Stripper to the substrate at 15 mils (1/64"). Allow product to dwell from 15
minutes to 2 hours. Remove using any of the recommended removal techniques. Weather
conditions and coating type will affect dwell time.
For removing multiple layers or stubborn coatings. Use a
small test patch to determine amount of stripper and dwell time required for thick or
stubborn coatings. Apply PreTox 7000 Paint Stripper at 30 mils (1/32"). The patch
should then be checked after 2 - 4 hours and then periodically afterwards. As a rule of
thumb, the greater the layers of paint, the longer the dwell time required. The stripper
will usually remove 8 - 12 layers of paint in 24 hours. More layers of paint or more
tenacious coatings may take longer (2 - 3 days).
Removal: PreTox 7000 Paint Stripper can be removed by many
means. Some suggestions follow.
|
Metal Surfaces: Agitate or rough up
stripper/paint layer on the surface with a wire brush without attempting removal. This
helps to lift the bottom layers from the surface. Use a razor blade scraper or stiff putty
knife to remove stripper and paint from the surface. Use a wire brush with light amounts
of water to remove any residue remaining.
Plaster Surfaces: For flat surfaces, use a 4" or wider
razor blade scraper (commonly known as a wallpaper stripper) to remove stripper/paint. For
decorative plaster, use a moulding scraper to lift stripper/paint from the surface. Use a
stiff bristle brush with light amounts of water to remove any remaining residue.
Wood Surfaces: For flat surfaces, easiest removal is
achieved with stainless steel scraper or drag scraper. Use a stiff bristle brush with
small amounts of water to remove any remaining residue. Remove from decorative wood using
the same techniques as those for plaster.
Masonry: Concrete Surfaces: Remove bulk of stripper/paint
with a stiff putty knife or wire brush. Use a wire brush with small amounts of water to
remove any remaining residue. In some circumstances, pressure washing is effective.
Note: Any paint residue remaining on a surface should be
removed within a short period of time so that the residue will not dry up and re-adhere.
In some circumstances, it may look like the last layer of paint is still on the surface.
This is not a dried layer of paint, but paint and stripper that has been emulsified and
can be removed as described above. |
Waste Sampling:
Sample and test all waste streams in accordance with federal, state and local regulations.
Use EPA or ASTM sampling procedures.
Clean-up:
No neutralization is required. Clean up with water.
Drying:
PreTox 7000 Paint Stripper is designed to remain wet for long periods of time. Should the
product dry out, misting with water will reactivate the stripper for removal.
Coverage:
Figure coverage based on wet mils (1 wet mil = 1600 sq. ft.). A 15 mil application will
cover approximately 105 sq. ft. and a 30 mil application will cover approximately 50 sq.
ft.
Note: Effectiveness of PreTox 7000 Paint Stripper depends
upon the integration of PreTox with the paint residue. Only sufficient application of
PreTox will ensure adequate control of lead leachability. PRETOX 7000 PAINT STRIPPER DOES
NOT RENDER OLD PAINT NON-TOXIC, IT REDUCES THE LEACHABILITY OF PAINT RESIDUE. Sample,
test, and dispose of all waste in accordance with federal, state and local regulations.
Safety Instructions: Safety goggles are recommended for eye
protection. Protective gloves such as butyl rubber, neoprene gloves are also recommended.
Maintain adequate ventilation, especially in confined areas. If spraying or misting is
expected, use NIOSH approved chemical cartridge (organic vapor) respiratory equipment,
(full face recommended). In case of inhalation, remove victim to fresh air and provide
oxygen if breathing is difficult. In case of eye contact, flush with large quantities of
water. In case of skin contact, wash skin with soap and water and use emollient skin
creams. In case of ingestion, do not induce vomiting. Call physician immediately. |
